i prefer plays to movies anytime.
a play feels more real to me. like in the movies there's like all this sound effects, whatever effects shit which does in fact enhance the movie experience but it takes away the real-ness and the intimacy of movie. in plays, you get to see the actors acting in front of you with no cuts or take 2, cause u obviously cant mess up and do it again like when filming for movies. so in a sense to me it feels more personal and real.
i was invited to watch Eight In A Box, a play directed by friend, Shaiful of Yellow Chair Productions. the whole play was a collection of 8 10-minute plays featuring works from awards wining playwrights all around the world. personally for me i was a bit skeptical on whether the actors were able to bring forth the emotions of each story within 10 minutes. and the idea of having 8 different plays together on 1 night might be a little too much to handle. nevertheless, its always good to approach everything with an open mind.
the play was held at the Drama Centre Black Box, National LIbrary Building so i brought Barney along to catch it with me. we got there a little early so we decided to hang around the national library building.

while waiting for the play to start, everybody was busily reading their booklet in the dark.
well overall, the 8 diffferent 10-minute plays were a good mix of comedy and drama. yes there were some hits and misses in some of the different plays. a good one was Finger Food, a play about the comedic banter between a fork and a spoon hping to be picked for a meal. a not so good one would probably be Love & Light, the psychic had a really bad almost jamaican acent and the story was abit lukewarm. but nevertheless the whole play had more hits than misses. a good effort considering the cast were not professional seasoned theatre actors but aspiring youths with budding talents.
me and Mr Director, Shaiful.
such a lovely well worth spent evening. dinner, plays and friends. how great is life!
