1Look 3 Places

i like mixing looks. like in today's post, i decided to give a modern twist to the traditional Indonesian Batik shirt.

you see, life is too short to take everything too seriously. thats why i like to have fun with how i dress. and probably thats why i dont have just one look. cause i'll get bored of looking the same. so go out today and try something new. pair a cheongsam top with wide legged pants or pin a gorgeous kerongsang (Peranakan brooch) on your vest. mix it up and have some fun!

hit or miss, it doesnt matter. what matters is you had fun experimenting.

colorful preppy

i love wearing shorts and there's nothing wrong with that.

i mean i would love to wear jackets and scarfs, tailored pants and oxford shoes, but the goddamn weather in singapore just doesn't permits it.

but the weather of course is not a good excuse for dressing like a slob. unless, you are a slob. then go ahead and strangle yourself with my patent leather Gucci belt because your existence is like a mildew on a Chanel 2.55 clutch.

this outfit i put together here was what i wore to school and afterwards, a dinner with some friends. the whole look revolves around one of my favourite styles -preppy. and i decided to inject colors because preppy can be a tad boring sometimes.

hotsex and orgamic

a word of caution before you read this entry:

if you're on a diet please exit immediately. the photos you're about to see will definitely make you drool.

and stop thinking dirty. they're not naked photos of me in compromising positions!

well maybe not yet. probably when i'm desperate to be popular or something. or maybe when i lose 15kg.

apparently, more and more of my friends are going overseas to study. i dont really get the idea of going overseas to study especially when you can get an overseas degree in singapore at lesser cost. everyone who goes tells me that its about the experience.

well, if i really wanted to experience how it feels to mingle with angmohs (caucasians), i would have just gone to wala wala.

nonetheless, my real reason for not going overseas to study is that i'll miss everyone too damn much. *cue the awws* so before weiliat, my friend since primary school, goes to australia to study, we decided to meet up for a somewhat farewell dinner.

ps: wei liat and weiliang are not brothers despite the similar sounding names.

dinner was at ...

IMG_1920.jpg picture by alvinhilton

if you can't tell by now, i'm infatuated with japanese food. i can eat it like everyday!!

and this was what i had for dinner that day.

sanshoku salmon

seasoned baby octopus

agedeshi tofu

IMG_1932.jpg picture by alvinhilton
baked miso scallops

IMG_1934.jpg picture by alvinhilton
phoenix roll

just a simple light dinner. i mean i didnt eat all of this myself okay!! we shared these.

now, dinner is never complete without desserts!! so we headed to Bakerzin for our sugar fix.

IMG_1944.jpg picture by alvinhilton

and where we saw this..

IMG_1946.jpg picture by alvinhilton

so after looking through the menu, we decided upon these for dessert.

IMG_1948.jpg picture by alvinhilton
bloom - a kind of lemon cheesecake

IMG_1949.jpg picture by alvinhilton
foret noir - something like blackforest but taste way better than those horrid neighbourhood ones

IMG_1955.jpg picture by alvinhilton
and of course, some assorted macarons since it was on promotion!

dinner was hotsex and dessert was orgasmic. if you haven't realise i love to eat. i dont think you should live a life of eating only salad for dinner or even skipping it. i rather die fat and happy rather than live my whole life miserable eating twigs and grass just for the sake of how others will judge us based on our weight.

thats why one of my resolutions this year isnt to lose weight but instead to live healthy. enjoy your food, but of course in moderation.

anyways, it was a nice meetup with the guys and wei liat's in australia now. talked to him on msn and found out that he's adapting well over there. thats great!

Singapore Gave A Dam!

sometimes going to orchard road all the time gets boring and the last thing you want to do is go out shopping. seriously, i feel like i'm running out of things to do on our little red dot. so i was reading papers one day and i chanced i upon this article regarding Singapore's biggest damn dam.

The Marina Barage

i have this little thing in me where i like to explore new or interesting places and just take fotos of the area while enjoying a scenic walk. i've found that by doing such things, its kinda therapeutic. i mean who doesn't like taking breezy walks at nice locales on Saturday afternoons.

so here's the results of my wonderful afternoon. just have to warn you first, that i'm not a trained photographer, so please don't expect gorgeous pictures.

all the grass patch that you see from the above photos are actually the rooftop of Marina Barrage. there were people flying kites and having picnics at the rooftop. and the view is just too lovely. you can see the Singapore flyer very clearly and all those CBD buildings make such a nice backdrop for a picnic.

this is the Solar Park at the rooftop where they use all the solar panels to power the Barrage.

260120091106.jpg picture by alvinhilton

this is like bridge that controls waterflow. notice that the water on both side of the bridge is like different color. this is due to the depth of the water or something. *flicks hair*

i know my explanations are really retarded. but like i dont study engineering or whatever subject that teaches you how to operate this dam. i do however am taking a marketing degree. so i could probably sell you the dam or do intensive advertising and promotions for it. (:

anyway, guess what i saw when i looked up in the sky?!

it was a cloud in the shape of a heart. well, it doesnt really look like a cloud that much in the picture cause i totally forgot to take a foto of it until like 10seconds of just standing there admiring it. so the wind kinda deformed it by the time i snapped a picture. nevertheless, still nice!

alright, thats it for today's entry. wow, this is like my first pictorial blog entry that doesnt have a photo of me in it. HAHAHA!! shocking right?!

well, the Marina Barrage is a litle inaccessible unless you drive but still, do try and check it out. its a nice place for a walk on windy afternoon.

The Macaroon Story

050220091115.jpg picture by alvinhilton

i happened to pass by Bakerzin and noticed that they were having a special promotion. their macaroons are going for like $1. well, yes i've tasted better macaroons at others places but paying $1 per macaroon is like paying $99 for a Gucci wallet. its so rare to come by that you just have to grab a wallet no matter how ugly it is. after all, it's still a Gucci.

050220091118.jpg picture by alvinhilton050220091120.jpg picture by alvinhilton

i met up with azlin after class one day so it was nice to catch up over a plate of assorted macaroons.

but you know too much of a good thing can sometimes be bad for you. i'm not sure about it but i bet those little colorful sweet sandwiches are bursting with calories. so you just gotta control yourself.

well maybe i can have one more piece.
one last piece.
one last piece after the previous last piece.

050220091121.jpg picture by alvinhilton

just one more small macaroon wont hurt right? right?!

050220091123.jpg picture by alvinhilton

damnit!! i hate having to make decisions!! this is like a major dilemma crisis can?!

050220091125.jpg picture by alvinhilton

too yummy to resist!!! this will be MY LAST PIECE!!! no more after this CONFIRM!!!

whataloser.

just adding water doesnt make you a baker.

most of the time when i ask my friends to point out to me people that are stylish, more often than not, these people who are singled out are usually wearing either stuff from topman, topshop, forever 21, zara. if these stores already sell stylish clothes and these ''stylish'' people wear them. does that still make them stylish?

a metaphor would be calling an apple juice sweet after it's been added with sugar syrup. isnt it the sugar syrup thats making the apple juice sweet? if there wasnt any sugar syrup added, would the apple juice still be sweet?

my point here is that it doesnt make a person stylish if he only dresses and buys stuff from stylish stores. because in the end it is the already in-style clothes that he wears that makes him stylish. not himself.

for me, a person who has a great sense of style is somebody who is able to mix different stuff together and makes it look like it was meant to be put together. its like baking a cake. the professionals bake it from scratch whereas the wanabes will stick to their 4-in-1 ready mades.

just adding water doesnt make you a baker.

well, i hope this entry has inspired you to step out of the pre-packaged box of buying default ''stylish'' items. style is an interpretation of fashion. experiment and have fun.

since this is technically a fashion entry, i shall leave you with my outfit shot. this was what i wore to school!
