The Macaroon Story
i happened to pass by Bakerzin and noticed that they were having a special promotion. their macaroons are going for like $1. well, yes i've tasted better macaroons at others places but paying $1 per macaroon is like paying $99 for a Gucci wallet. its so rare to come by that you just have to grab a wallet no matter how ugly it is. after all, it's still a Gucci.
i met up with azlin after class one day so it was nice to catch up over a plate of assorted macaroons.
but you know too much of a good thing can sometimes be bad for you. i'm not sure about it but i bet those little colorful sweet sandwiches are bursting with calories. so you just gotta control yourself.
well maybe i can have one more piece.
one last piece.
one last piece after the previous last piece.
just one more small macaroon wont hurt right? right?!
damnit!! i hate having to make decisions!! this is like a major dilemma crisis can?!
too yummy to resist!!! this will be MY LAST PIECE!!! no more after this CONFIRM!!!
whataloser.
back to schoolwork!

just adding water doesnt make you a baker.
most of the time when i ask my friends to point out to me people that are stylish, more often than not, these people who are singled out are usually wearing either stuff from topman, topshop, forever 21, zara. if these stores already sell stylish clothes and these ''stylish'' people wear them. does that still make them stylish?
a metaphor would be calling an apple juice sweet after it's been added with sugar syrup. isnt it the sugar syrup thats making the apple juice sweet? if there wasnt any sugar syrup added, would the apple juice still be sweet?
my point here is that it doesnt make a person stylish if he only dresses and buys stuff from stylish stores. because in the end it is the already in-style clothes that he wears that makes him stylish. not himself.
for me, a person who has a great sense of style is somebody who is able to mix different stuff together and makes it look like it was meant to be put together. its like baking a cake. the professionals bake it from scratch whereas the wanabes will stick to their 4-in-1 ready mades.
just adding water doesnt make you a baker.
well, i hope this entry has inspired you to step out of the pre-packaged box of buying default ''stylish'' items. style is an interpretation of fashion. experiment and have fun.
since this is technically a fashion entry, i shall leave you with my outfit shot. this was what i wore to school!
top - tshirt : Urban Karma
top - vest : thrifted from Salvation Army
bottom : pleated pants from Marks & Spencer
footwear : leather lace ups from Mustafa
accessories : glasses from Levis
if you have any comments or suggestions on how to make this outfit better, do leave me a comment on my tagboard on the right. thankyou!!

waffles and friendship
everybody complains that school food sucks.
and i somewhat agree. its not that fantastic but its edible. well, after two years of eating NS food daily, school food somewhat taste waaay better.
but there's this thing in sch that i really like.
waffles with vanilla ice cream from Megabites.
now, this is the shits!
no need to wait for tuesdays just to eat waffles and icecream at Gelare. i can eat it at SIM E.V.E.R.Y.D.A.Y.!!!
woohooo!!
i make it a point to meet up with my friends every now and then to catch up with everybody. i think its important no matter how busy you are to slot in a few hours to have dinner with your friend. since i dont have siblings, friendship to me is very important and i believe effort is needed to keep it from drifting apart.
so i met up with a couple of my NS mates for dinner at suntec. we ate at this korean restaurant somewhere around the fountain area there. cant remember what the name was. not worth remembering anyway cause the food was damn sucky. but oh wells, you live and you learn.
the past is a teacher of the future.
shahul & quee
shahul & me
dinner was bad but luckily the company was good.
ciao

Lets Go Nude
sometimes life gets a little complicated. so i try to keep things simple with my clothes.

showcasing simple in different shades of nude.
top : short sleeve shirt from G2000
bottom : cuffed shorts from Bangkok
footwear : two-strap sandals from Shop In
accessories - glasses : tortoiseshells from Levis
accessories - watch : brown leather watch from Random Pushcart
accessories - bracelet : beaded necklace made into a bracelet from Queensway
accessories - belt : nude leather belt from Mustafa

pink valentines.
is love represented by how big the bouquet of roses is or is love represented by how expensive the Tiffany&Co necklace cost?
i personally hate the fact that valentines day totally materializes love.
love doesnt have to be between lovers. love can also be between friends. and you dont have to buy your friend a huge ass expensive present to show how much you appreciate him/her. this is a distorted concept of love.
the best way we can show the people we love how much we appreciate them in our lives is by the things we do.
and here's one great example.
sheryl has just started her internship in the sales and marketing department at one of the reputable hotels located in town. and you know, usually during the first week of work, its kinda sucky cause you dont really know anybody and you're new to the place. so since some of us were on leave and i had no school on that particular day. we decided to meet up with sheryl during her lunch break. shop after she goes back to work. and meet up with her after work!
so thats the plan.
waiting for the rest to come. timing is crucial cause the lunch break is only 1 hour so we cant be late.
me & sheryl
making our way to far east for lunch.
and lunch is subway! their white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie is the shitz!
sheryl & jiafang me & cecilia
this side and that side of the table. sheryl didnt seem to get the memo about wearing pink. but nevertheless, we all look color coordinated somehow.
we managed to persuade the security guard to help us take a picture after lunch.
so sheryl had to go back to work cause her lunch break was gonna end soon. that means it's shoppiong time for me, jiafang and cecilia!!
very colgate commercial like that.
cecilia, me & jiafang
the girls said my shades looks really reflective so they decided take a foto of themselves through my lenses.
cecilia looks like she's pointing her middle finger. but that cant be true since she works for sanrio as hello kitty. (inside joke)
towns been geeting sucky lately. nothing much to shop at all. its so hard to actually find something nice. so we decided to go chill out first and wait for sheryl to knock off work.
cecilia & jiafang
cecilia & jasmine
cecilia's sister was in the area earlier so she decided to join us.
too much pink.
sheryl finally knocked off!! yay!!
now, you see. love isnt just for lovers, it can be between friends. and love doesnt have to be materialistic, it can shown thru what you do for the people you love.
Happy Valentines Day.

Introducing Sarah McKathleen
procrastination is like my main problem right now. i tell myself i will do my project in one hour's time. but 3hours later, i'm still online. i've watched the latest episode of Ugly Betty, yes. i've watched the recent episode of 30 Rock, yes. i've checked facebook more than 3 times, yes. i've edited my photos, yes. i've started on my project, NO.
isnt it funny how when you have something important to do, you never run out of other things to do. suddenly there's so many nice shows on tv. suddenly, there's so many things to do online. and suddenly all you're friends are asking you out.
i'm a huge procrastinor and i hate myself for it.
one of the aspects in my life that i procrastinate quite abit is in blogging. all my other friends have probably blogged about this and most of you should have already seen the photos in facebook so i guess i shall just do a brief entry. also, i still have my projects to start remember! *coughs*
met up with the poly people at dempsey one night sans huiming who was overseas. joy just came back from australia cause she's having her school holidays so thats another great reason to meet up and catch up.
me, angela, kath, joy, yasi
we had dinner at Dome first then we headed over to Harry's. the food at Dome was not bad actually. nice place with nice service.
kath & joy
ordered our drinks at Harry's. it's my first time to Harry's at Dempsey and its quite a nice place with a lovely ambience for like a bunch of friends to chill out. the drinks werent exactly cheap but if you frequent this kind of places, you'll find paying $18 for a drink normal.
maddie, yasi & joy
maddie showing us what she does after every meal. and yes, i know she doesnt look anorexic. she hides it well.
yasi, me & angela
the whole group.
and we ordered like this huge plate of random finger food combo. the wedges were yummy!
me & angela
angela giving us her money shot! thank god i'm a guy cause if i had to wear a skirt, i'd definitely get a 'Frequent Flasher' card.
kath & joy
maddie & yasi
me & angela
we all had to pose with this funny face and angela wins hands down! i'm still recovering from the post traumatic nightmares.
since we were also celebrating kath's birthday we wrote a note to the band, well, you cant exactly call it a band cause it was just a guy alone singing and playing the guitar. we requested for a birthday song when kath went to the ladies. and he was nice enough to play along with the surprise.
he was so nice that he even dedicated one song to us okay. nope, it wasnt Womanizer as much i wanted it to be, it was just some random song i cant recall now. haha!
during the break we told him that kath could sing quite well and asked him whether she can sing one song with him and he said okay! kath was so shy about it but i managed to persuade her to do it!! woohoo!!
i've been to kbox with kath before and when she sings i still think the audio is still on okay. ITS THAT GOOD!!
ladies & gentlemen, introducing the debut performance of sarah mcKATHLEEN!!
she sang Angels by Sarah Mclachlan and she sounded heavenly! when she started singing, the whole bar suddenly shut up and listened. i think they didnt expect her to sound that good! haha! it ended with a rousing applause from everyone in the bar and she even got drinks sent to the table okay!
maybe next time i shall perform my rendition of Single Ladies by Beyonce and see how many drinks i get sent to the table.
i definitely wont drink them though cause i bet they're poisoned. HAHA!!!
hanged around for a while more then we decided to take a walk around dempsey and take fotos!
all of us managed to squeeze between 2 parked cars.
i like this photo. it reminds me of those photos you find in your secondary school annuals where you have all your teacher's from different departments pose together. angela, the math teacher cause i donno why. me, the chemistry teacher because i love chemistry back in secondary school. kath, the english teacher cause she looks like it. maddie, the home econs teacher cause food is her forte. yasi, the PE teacher cause she looks hot in FBT shorts.
lets danced the night away on multiple shots.
xoxo

Distorted Concept of Casual
we might be living on an island but i don't see why everyone has to dress like they're going to the beach everyday. i was a never big fan of the tshirt, shorts and slippers get up and i dont think i'll ever be a convert. to me, this whole ensemble just makes you look down right sloppy. stores like Newurbanmale, Mooks, Billabong's existence proves nothing more than to bastardise our local fashion scene.
its bad enough that our nation's dress code seems to revolve around sloppy, however, the so called 'fashionable' ones are merely clones who lavish in past season's immitations from far east plaza. the death of the gladiator sandals arrived when every single shoe store in far east plaza decided to carry a hideous lookalike, nothing compared to those of Balenciaga's. and now, i suspect PVC leggings will be making an exit from trendy into tacky very shortly. also, in the line, the extinction of frivolous online shops. do i hear an amen?
you see, the problem that our local fashion scene faces is that singaporeans are still a little reserved. we somehow want to be fashionable yet we are afraid to create our own unique identity. therefore, we follow trends so that we are seen as fashion forward yet still being able to fit in. imagine if you were to wear the gladiator sandals 5 years back, nobody would see u as fashion forward as it wasnt the trend at that moment. and that is what a lot of singaporeans fear, standing out.
therefore, i conclude my theory that most singaporeans are fashion-impaired and thus, we follow the trend so that we can be seen as fashionable to the extent of that accepted by the public as being fashionable. in other words, a bunch of dumb copycats.
while many gave me the same phrase whenever i question them about their lack of respect displayed thru their attire to an educational instituition, which is, 'it's just school what?', my idea of a casual attire to school somehow deviates from everyone else's.
while everyone else seems to view casual as a newurbanmale tshirt paired with billabong shorts and havaianas slippers, my casual garb to school usually looks somewhat like this.
Top: black and white checkered long sleeve shirt from Topman
Belt: black leather belt from Massimo Dutti
Bottom: grey bermudas from Giordano Concepts
Shoes: metallic charcoal lace-ups from random store at Far East Plaza.
maybe my perception of casual for school is a little distorted from yours. maybe i'm different. maybe i'm weird. maybe i like it.
ciao!
